Meat Lover's Pizza Hot Dish
My kids love pizza. I am pretty sure if I made it every single day they would never tire of it. Don't get me wrong. I love pizza, too! I also love my crockpot so I was very excited to find this pizza recipe that you make in your slow cooker!! I've tweaked it a little to be 21 day fix friendly. My family loves this dish and I hope you do, too!
Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef or ground sausage (or ground turkey)
1 lb bulk Italian sausage (I use turkey sausage)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
4 cans (8 oz) no-salt-added tomato sauce
2 cans (15 oz) pizza sauce
1 pkg (16 oz) whole wheat penne pasta
1 cup water
1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
1 pkg (3.5 oz) sliced pepperoni (I use turkey pepperoni)
1 tsp Italian seasoning
2 cups (8 oz) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese, divided
2 cups (8 oz) shredded cheddar cheese, divided
Directions
1. In large skillet cook beef, sausage, onion and mushrooms over medium heat 10-12 minutes or until meat is no longer pink and veggies are tender, breaking up meat into crumbles; drain.
2. Transfer meat mixture to a greased 6 quart slow cooker. Stir in tomato sauce, pizza sauce, pasta, water, tomato paste, pepperoni, and Italian seasoning. Cook, covered, on low 3-4 hours or until pasta is tender.
3. Stir thoroughly; mix in 1 cup mozzarella cheese and 1 cup cheddar cheese. Sprinkle remaining cheese over top. Cook, covered, 15-20 minutes longer or until cheese is melted.
